Rep. Welter calls on Speaker Madigan to resign amid ComEd bribery scandal

State Representative David Allen Welter, R-Morris, issued the following statement after the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Illinois filed bribery charges in federal court against ComEd on Friday implicating House Speaker Michael J. Madigan as “Public Official A” the utility worked to “influence and reward”:

“Speaker Madigan should resign immediately. The charges filed against ComEd today clearly demonstrate that the Speaker lacks the ethical standing to continue in his position. Governor Pritzker has a responsibility to lead on this issue and speak on behalf of Democrats, Republicans and independents throughout Illinois that we have zero tolerance for public corruption in this state.”

Representative Welter serves the 75th District, which includes portions of Grundy, Kendall, LaSalle and Will Counties.
