Rep. Welter to Host Kids’ Fishing Derby at Loon Big Lake on Saturday, May 21st

Children of all ages are invited to participate in State Rep. David Welter’s Fishing Derby with the Illinois Conservation Police and T.E.A.C.H. Outdoors to be held at Silver Springs State Park located at Loon Big Lake, 13608 Fox Road in Yorkville from 9:00am to 12:00pm on Saturday, May 21st.

“Our Fishing Derby is a great way for kids to learn how to fish or practice their skills if they have fished before,” Rep. Welter said. “I invite every family to come out and enjoy an early summer morning outdoors with us at beautiful Loon Big Lake.”

The first 50 kids to arrive will receive a FREE rod/reel combo set, courtesy of the Future Angler Foundation. Bait will be provided for everyone.

There will be on-site conservation trailers to teach anglers about conservation and the Illinois Conservation Police will give a Water & Boat Safety presentation at 9:00am. Youth Ambassadors and the Youth Council from T.E.A.C.H. Outdoors will be on hand to help bait hooks and reel in fish.

Prizes will be awarded for Biggest Fish, Most Fish, and Sportsman Award.
